Even though your teeth are tough, there are still rare occasions when a hard blow to the face or an accidental fall can crack, damage or severely fracture a tooth. Sometimes the damage can be so severe that your dentist, Dr. Thinh Ho, cannot save the broken tooth with a root canal. The only viable treatment to ease the pain and prevent infection is to extract the tooth.

Once your gums have completely healed following the extraction, our Olympia Dental Group team can install a dental implant. This will fully replace the previously broken tooth for many years to come.

We will start the process of restoring the broken tooth by performing a thorough examination and by taking X-rays. This gives us a detailed understanding of the overall health of your mouth as well as the available bone structure in your jaw. If the extracted tooth resulted in the loss of bone structure, we might recommend that you receive a bone graft so you can restore sufficient jaw structure to mount an implant.

Dental implants are installed in a single outpatient appointment, requiring deep sedation. So, you will need to arrange to have a friend or family member drive you home after your appointment.

To install the dental implant in Lacey, Washington, an oral surgeon will make a small incision in your gums to gain direct access to the underlying bone. A narrow channel will be drilled into the bone and a titanium abutment will be screwed into place. Titanium is known to be biologically safe and will eventually fuse to your bones to create a very strong anchor.

Once your gums have healed and the titanium abutment has fused to the surrounding bone, we can start the process of installing a standard dental crown.
